With a population of 30,906 residents, 271,962 patron
visits were made to District libraries in 2001, up 72,970 visits or 36% in two
years.
7,344 children and 2,026 adults participated in early
childhood reading and learning programs conducted by the library in 2001.
Filtered and unfiltered Internet access is available at
all libraries to anyone who wants it.
As promised, the construction of new libraries in
Sandpoint and Clark Fork was completed on time and under budget.
The old Sandpoint Library building was sold.
The library bookmobile now serves people who live in the
communities of Careywood, Hope, Laclede, Samuels and Westmond.
The Sandpoint, Clark Fork and Edgemere libraries, and the
bookmobile, are a source of pride to thousands of Bonner County residents who
made them a reality.
The East Bonner County Library District continues to be a
leader among public libraries in the State of Idaho in circulation of
materials, and ranks fourth (4th) behind Boise, Idaho Falls and
Pocatello in the total number of materials (431,947 items in 2001) checked out
.
The East Bonner County Library District is one of only two
library systems in Idaho that employ staff to help people learn to read, to
obtain their high school equivalency diploma [GED], to earn U.S. citizenship
and to improve their math, science and other skills by matching students with
qualified tutors.
Monthly deliveries of materials are made to patrons who
are homebound, elderly or residents of extended care facilities.
Materials-By-Mail are delivered to residents who live in
remote areas of the Library District or who otherwise cannot come to a branch
library.
